This is a genuine early-20th-century English claret / wine decanter, made at a time when everyday objects were expected to be both useful and dignified. The piece features a heavy cut-glass body with diamond cutting to the lower section and vertical fluting above, finished with a silver-plated hinged mount, beaded rim, elegant serpentine handle, and original ground glass stopper. Marked clearly to the underside of the lid: “MADE IN ENGLAND – SILVER PLATED” This confirms silver plate (not sterling) and places the piece firmly in the late Edwardian period, circa 1900–1915. Details Origin: England Date: c.1900–1915 Material: Cut glass with silver-plated mount Stopper: Original, present, and correct Condition: Glass in very good condition with no cracks or clouding Silver plate shows honest age-related wear, particularly internally, consistent with genuine use Lid hinge strong and well aligned This has not been over-polished. The patina has been respected.
